Ross Kauffman is the co-director, co-producer, co-cinematographer and co-editor of BORN INTO BROTHELS, winner of the 2005 Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Kauffman worked as a documentary film editor from 1992 - 2000. He spent three years at Valkhn Film and Video Inc., a post-production company where he worked on a wide variety of films for HBO, WNET/THIRTEEN National Geographic and The Discovery Channel.

In 2001 Kauffman formed Red Light Films to direct and produce Born into Brothels, a documentary about the children of Calcutta's prostitutes. Born into Brothels was accepted to over 50 film festivals worldwide and has since received over 40 awards, including the 2005 Emmy Award for Best Documentary, National Board of Review Best Documentary 2004, LA Film Critics Best Documentary 2004, and the 2004 Sundance Film Festival Audience Award.

Kauffman also served Executive Producer and Consulting Producer on the documentary feature In A Dream, which was short-listed for the 2009 Academy Awards, and cinematographer of the documentary feature Project Kashmir.

Currently, he working on a variety of projects including; BOY BOY GIRL GIRL; a comedic narrative feature film about a gay couple, eager to become parents, trying to adopt a newborn baby from a drug-addicted pregnant woman and her abusive lesbian girlfriend; PENNY, a narrative feature film about a thirteen year old Tanzanian girl's descent and eventual escape from a life of domestic servitude; and WAIT FOR ME, a feature length documentary chronicling the story of a mother's spiritual and emotional search for her son who went missing twenty-three years ago.
