About Hope HouseIn Kolkata's red light district, more than 10,000 women and girls work as prostitutes. Only one group has a lower standing-their children. Filmmakers Ross Kauffman and Zana Briski documented the lives of these children in their Academy Award-winning documentary, Born into Brothels. Given cameras and taught how to use them, these children whom society had shunned began to see their world, and themselves, through new eyes, creating stunning tableaus of Bengali life. Now there is a plan to help more children like those portrayed in Born into Brothels. With your help, Kids with Cameras will raise the remaining funds it needs to build Hope House, a nurturing home where 100 children from Kolkata's red light district can come to live, learn, and grow. The children who live in Hope House will receive a free, first-rate education through high school via the Buntain Foundation, which operates more than 100 schools in India. All proceeds raised will go directly to constructing Hope House, creating a college fund, and providing programs that will develop the children's skills and enrich their lives. Together, we can bring hope to Kolkata.
