New Projects Opening Event

July 1, 2007

Over 400 people attended the opening reception for the exhibit of new works by Guy Stanley Philoche and Kids with Cameras. Pras Michel, a member of the Haitian band The Fugees, introduced Guy Stanley Philoche and Zana Briski in an evening that celebrated photography, painting and the spirit of Haiti.

On display were several new paintings from Philoche's "Untitled" series as well as photographs from the Kids with Cameras Haiti project. Titled "Haiti Unmasked", the 18 photographs exhibited were taken by child domestic servants from Carrefour, one of the most densely populated areas outside of Port-au-Prince. The work was a selection of images of their home life, an outing to the beach and the yearly celebration of Carnival.

The work was on display from May 30 - June 27. Over $15,000 was generated in print sales and contributions. Net proceeds from the sale of the children's work go to support the project and their education.
